Trillium First
Hospital Recognized as Environmental Leader
Trillium Health Centre is officially recognized as an Ontario
Environmental Leader, the only health care facility with this
distinction. Through the program Trillium committed and has
eliminated mercury usage by 100 percent. We have also committed
to diverting waste by an additional 30 per cent by 2008.
The Ontario Environmental Leaders Program was developed in
2001 as a component of a plan that would establish Ontario
as an environmental leader. The program offers companies environmental
initiatives and rewards them with public recognition and acknowledgement
through the Ministry of the Environment’s various communication
vehicles. By becoming a member, Trillium has committed to
going beyond what is expected to reduce environmental impacts.
Trillium Physician
Wins Prestigious National Health Informatics COACH Award
Canada's Health
Informatics Association has recognized Dr. Chris O'Connor,
Trillium Health Centre's Director of Medical Informatics and
Intensivist with the Emerging Leader in Health Informatics
Award. This award publicly recognizes individuals who are
in the first five years of their health informatics career,
have clearly demonstrated leadership and achieved early success
in health informatics.
Dr. O’Connor’s peers recommended him for this
award to recognize his thought leadership and stewardship
of projects such as Trillium’s Order Set Transformation
- a project which received Ontario's first Innovation Award
for Improving Quality and Patient Safety from the Minister
of Health and Long-Term Care. This project has already provided
tremendous clinical and patient safety benefits and has helped
prepare Trillium for the Computerized Physician Order Entry
journey.
Dr. O’Connor has been a leader of innovation helping
to pioneer the use of cell phones and BlackBerrys in a hospital
setting. In particular, he spearheaded the introduction of
BlackBerrys in Trillium’s ICU. This project has substantially
changed workflow with significant benefits in patient care.
Mississauga Board
of Trade Recognizes Trillium Health Centre
Mississauga Board
of Trade's Awards of Excellence are presented annually to
honour the efforts of successful Mississauga businesses whose
achievements have made important contributions to the economic
well being of Mississauga and its citizens.
Trillium received
the Corporate Governance Award which is bestowed to an organization
in Mississauga demonstrating innovative practices that increase
governance effectiveness and provide measurable, tangible
results for their organization. Criteria include striving
to improve areas such as adequate representation of independent
directors, enhancements in investor confidence and communications,
and an ethical code of conduct.

Trillium Receives
the 2007 Canada Award for Excellence from the National Quality
Institute
Trillium Health
Centre is the proud recipient of the 2007 Canada Awards for
Excellence presented by the National Quality Institute (NQI).
Trillium received the Silver Award for outstanding achievement
in quality, customer service and a healthy workplace.
Kevin Dougherty,
Board Chairman, NQI, says, "The award recipients represent
outstanding role models of effectiveness and leadership.
The recipients and the more than 270 members of the National
Quality Institute are making a positive impact on the growth
of the Canadian economy."

Trillium
Receives NQI Progressive Excellence Program (PEP) Level III
Following
a comprehensive submission and on-site verification process,
Trillium Health Centre has achieved a Level III award from
the National Quality Institute, a leading authority in Canada
on workplace excellence based on quality systems and healthy
workplace criteria.
The levels of NQI-PEP are progressive in scope, designed so
that organizations, both in the health care and non health
care sectors can be externally recognized at different levels.
This reinforces and assists in sustaining a focus on excellence
through quality and continuous improvement.
Some
strengths identified in the assessment visit are:

Trillium's
Labs Awarded 5-Year Certificate of Accreditation
Trillium's
Laboratories at the Mississauga and West Toronto locations
were awarded a 5-Year Certificate of Accreditation, the longest
accreditation possible, in May 2006, from the Ontario Laboratory
Accreditation (OLA).
The
OLA process is a comprehensive program that, through a peer
assessment visit, ensures labs meet approximately 1,200 explicit
internationally accepted standards (ISO 15189). It also deems
them both competent to perform tests/exams and ensures there
is a comprehensive quality management program in place.
During
the OLA's visit to Trillium, the Assessment Team was impressed
with lab service levels and commented on 'the astounding response
times and quality of lab work'.

Trillium
Awarded Ontario's 1st Innovation
Award For Improving Quality & Patient Safety
In
April 2006, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care George Smitherman
awarded Trillium with Ontario's first Innovation Award for
Improving Quality and Patient Safety.
Trillium
won this award for its continuous commitment to innovation
and its breakthrough work with the Trillium Order Sets System.
In alignment with Trillium's patient centredness approach,
clinical staff determined that standardized order sets were
necessary to improve patient care.
An
interdisciplinary Order Sets Committee at Trillium has created
more than 200 order sets in a web accessible database. Order
sets are used by physicians to order medications, treatments,
procedures and consultations for each patient, in effect,
the detailed instructions to implement today's complex treatments.

Trillium 1st Multi-Site
Hospital in the World to be Awarded International Environmental
Standard
The International
Organization for Standardization (ISO) recognized
Trillium was the
first multi-site hospital in the world to be awarded ISO 14001
registration by the International Organization for Standardization
(ISO). Trillium achieved this honour for its progressive Environmental
Management System (EMS).
Achievement of ISO
14001 registration clearly shows Trillium's dedication to
protecting the environment. The environmental management programs
address key environmental impacts, including Energy Conservation,
Water Quality, Hazardous Materials Management, Waste Reduction
and Emissions Management.

Trillium Takes
Home National 3M Quality Award
Trillium was the
recipient of the national 3M Health Care Quality Team Award
in the acute care facility category in 2002. Presented by
the Canadian College of Health Services Executives (CCHSE)
and 3M Health Care, this prestigious industry accolade recognizes
quality and innovation as well as exemplary teamwork.
Trillium's submission
focused on its Ambulatory Care Centre at its Trillium - West
Toronto with a particular focus on the Surgicentre, Surgical
Clinics and Medical Clinics.
The 3M Award recognizes innovations
'that show evidence of sustainable improvements in programs
and services achieved through quality teamwork.' The
stringent award criteria demand results-oriented projects
that can demonstrate improved programs or services for the
community, increased efficiency within a department or unit,
and attention to customer satisfaction.
Trillium
Winner 0f Muse Award
Trillium was the
first hospital in the history of the Medical Users Software
Exchange (MUSE) to be awarded an International Education Exchange
Award (MUSE). Awarded at the 2002 International MUSE Conference,
Trillium won the award for its strategic and innovative Dashboard
project.
The Dashboard is
an electronic display of key indicators that Trillium monitors
periodically to evaluate if its strategic priorities are being
achieved. Indicators cover the three dimensions of quality
including clinical/service, process/operational, and community
outcomes, and are tracked according to the hospital's six
strategic priorities.
The Dashboard emulates a balanced scorecard
concept, putting information at users' fingertips.
Environmental
Excellence Award
Trillium received
the 2002 Environmental Excellence Award from the Mississauga
Board of Trade. The award is presented annually to a Mississauga
organization that demonstrates the highest level of contribution
to the environmental well being of the City of Mississauga
or the environment as a whole.
As the "Voice of Business"
established in 1976, the Mississauga Board of Trade is a private
sector organization representing some 1,300 companies with
60,000 employees in Mississauga. The Board of Trade is committed
to creating an environment for Mississauga businesses to compete
and prosper thereby contributing to the quality of life for
all citizens in the community.
Trillium
a Canada Top 100 Employer in 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004
For four years running,
Trillium Health Centre has been recognized as one of Canada's
Top 100 Employers in a book authored by career specialist
Richard Yerema and published by Mediacorp Canada Inc.
Two of the main
qualifiers for being considered for the book, 'Canada's Top
100 Employers' include:
- Being a company or organization that is a leader in its
industry in attracting and retaining quality employees;
- Must not have laid off employees in the past year
According to the publishers, the book
lists 'an amazing group of employers that lead their industries
in attracting and retaining employees. These companies and
organizations offer truly exceptional employee benefits, working
conditions and perks'. The book features employers from every
region of the country and from every major industry. In choosing
finalists for the book, each employer was compared to others
in the same industry.
