Advocacy for Funding
On behalf of the more than 700,000 men, women and children who turn to us every year, we continue to advocate for funding to support our service demands. In partnership with the Mississauga Halton LHIN, Trillium has been working with the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care to finalize our Post Construction Operating Plan funding, the funding needed to maximize our new West Wing.  To date, we have received approval for approximately $16.8 million of the $43 million required to add much-needed additional surgical and medical beds and outpatient services like urgent care and mental health.

Dialogue with Leaders
In an ongoing effort to develop meaningful dialogue with key thought-leaders in health care in Ontario, the Board welcomed Tom Closson, president and CEO of the Ontario Hospital Association, to a “Fireside Chat” in February. Tom provided an informative and thought-provoking dialogue on “Challenges and Issues in Health Care.”

Fiscal Year-End
March 31 marked the end of our fiscal year end. With that comes the preparation for our Annual General Meeting taking place Thursday, June 10 at 5 p.m. in the Trillium-Mississauga Auditorium. All community members are welcome.
The meeting will include reports from the Chair, President and CEO, Chief of Staff, receipt of the financial statements; election of Directors; and approval of amendments to Corporation By-Laws.
Our guest speaker will be Dr. Catharine Whiteside, Dean, Faculty of Medicine and Vice-Provost, Relations with Health Care Institutions at the University of Toronto. Trillium Health Centre’s affiliation with the University of Toronto is key to our realizing our longer-term strategic priority to be a leading academically-affiliated specialty hospital.

Director Recruitment
Trillium Health Centre is always seeking qualified candidates to join our Board of Directors on a volunteer basis. Again this year, we actively recruited interested community members.  We underwent a careful and thorough process to identify strong, potential candidates and will elect new directors at our upcoming annual general meeting.

Accreditation
The Board of Directors looks forward to welcoming the survey team from Accreditation Canada in May and congratulates the employees, physicians and volunteers of Trillium for their hard work in preparing for the survey.   In the last Accreditation Survey, in 2007, the Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation said “Trillium Health Centre has received recognition as a quality organization throughout the health care community on both a provincial and national level... The organization has a real commitment to quality and patient safety along with a well-developed culture of patient safety.”
