Board of Directors

Board of Directors

Anne Sado

Governance Quarterly
Winter 2010

In 2008-09, in partnership with internal and community stakeholders, the Board of Directors developed the Trillium Health Centre Strategic Plan for 2010-12.  In the first six months of fiscal 2009-10, implementation of the plan has already achieved results.

Board Retreat
In October, the Board of Directors and executive management team participated in an annual planning retreat which focused on Trillium’s Quality by Design strategic theme.

Strategic Quality Aims were set to focus and align the organization to achieve the best quality patient outcomes.  Four 'big dot' or big picture indicators were selected:

  • No Needless Wait
  • No Needless Pain
  • No Needless Harm
  • No Needless Death

These indicators support Trillium’s goal of providing caring and compassionate patient-centred care of the highest quality, while eliminating preventable harm for every patient every day. A driver map has been developed for each indicator to allow staff and the board to focus on key drivers and specific targets.

Long-Term Care Beds
In March 2009, Trillium Health Centre’s board of directors approved the purchase of 220 individual long-term carebed licenses within the Mississauga Halton LHIN. This purchase is aligned with Trillium’s longer-term seniors’ health and wellness strategic vision to better meet the specialized needs of seniors in our community.  Further details will be provided in the coming months.

Governance to Governance
Trillium’s Board of Directors is participating in a LHIN wide Governance to Governance initiative. This is a new web-site designed to assemble and share practical information and governance tools with boards and board members. It provides full, one-stop access to helpful information about other health service provider boards and organizations and provides access to an inventory of good governance practices, frameworks and tools assembled by leading governance experts and other practicing boards.

Financial Summary
Trillium’s Board and management team remain committed to a balanced budget by year-end. Ongoing dialogue continues with all levels of government and the LHIN to secure funding for key initiatives to support quality patient care.

Information Technology Security
Trillium Health Centre is implementing an Information Technology Security initiative. We are creating an organization-wide information security program to ensure the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information and information technology in support of business objectives.

Community member appointed to Resources and Audit Committees
Wayne Bossert, executive vice-president of Retail Operations for RBC, is the 2009-10 community representative on Trillium’s Resources and Audit Committees.  A resident of Oakville, Mr. Bossert is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Greater Halifax Partnership, Laing House, Dalhousie Faculty of Management and the Mount Saint Vincent University, as well as chair of the Finance Committee. In 2005, he chaired the United Way Campaign for the Halifax Region and is a member of the Canadian Mental Health Association – Champions Network.

Respectfully submitted,

Anne Sado
Chair of the Board
