Employee Health, Safety and Wellness
Trillium recognizes
that its vision of Your Health. Our Passion – for Life. can only be achieved through the leadership and inspiration
of its workforce – people whose individual and collective
aspirations provide the driving force needed to move forward
progressively and innovatively.
To do that, our
team needs to be healthy and above all, to work in an environment
that is safe, supportive and flexible in meeting the needs
of our people.
Trillium’s
Employee Health, Safety and Wellness Department has developed
a strong and comprehensive program designed to meet the current
needs of today’s workforce while taking a proactive
role in preventative health and safety measures.

Attendance Management
Program
Maximizing our ability
to maintain a healthy and active workforce, Trillium has a
comprehensive Attendance Management Program in place designed
to promote regular attendance, an essential element to job
performance. No one likes to be sick, but when employees are
faced with illness, Employee Health, Safety and Wellness works
closely with individuals to support them in their return to
health and the workplace.

Ergonomic Consultation
Recognizing the
musculoskeletal risks for many who work in a health care environment,
Trillium has an excellent service in place to proactively
address the needs of its employees. The role of the ergonomic
consultants is to provide consultative expertise to staff,
management, the Joint Health & Safety Committees and their
colleagues in Employee Health, Safety and Wellness, through
educational sessions, assistance with accident investigations,
physical demands analysis, new project planning, standardization
of new furniture purchases, other equipment purchases including
patient lifting devices, work station assessments and employee
assessments.
This is what some
of our clients had to say about their experience with our
ergonomic consultants:
“Jennifer
was excellent. I had confidence that she would make a difference
in my work station and she did.”
“I am amazed
by the caring attitude which means a lot when you get hurt.
Thanks again.”
“We purchased
equipment to assist the employee while working. The employee
is motivated and appreciative of the quick response/action
initiated by the Employee Health ergonomics team.”
“This was
more than a one time issue. In all times, Janet was prompt,
professional and explanatory.”

Employee Assistance
Program
The more complex
life becomes, the more challenges we face at home and at work.
When those challenges become overwhelming Trillium’s
Employee Assistance Program (EAP) offers a voluntary, confidential
short-term counselling and advisory service for employees
and eligible family members that connects them to a network
of dedicated professionals who are available with assistance
24 hours a day. These complimentary services are provided
by FGI, Canada’s largest and most respected behavioural
health service provider.

Flu Program
To assist our employees,
physicians and volunteers to maintain their health, Trillium
coordinates and delivers a highly visible annual flu awareness
campaign and offers complimentary flu vaccine through a program
designed to meet everyone’s individual schedules. The
Employee Health, Safety and Wellness team schedules clinics
at both hospital sites throughout the month of November, including
daytime, evening and weekend hours. It also offers a traveling
vaccine cart, as well as providing vaccine through their office.

Lunch 'n' Learns
Throughout the year,
members of the Employee Health, Safety and Wellness team collaborate
with the Health Information & Wellness team to coordinate
‘Lunch 'n' Learn’ sessions covering a wide variety
of topics related to health and wellness in the workplace.
The sessions offer everything from guest speakers, to fitness
and relaxation demonstrations, to contests. The team selects
topics based on feedback from employees.

Modified Work Program
The hospital’s
Modified Work Program is designed to facilitate and support
employee recovery following an illness or injury. Trillium
recognizes that most employees are eager to return to work
as soon as possible. Employee Health, Safety and Wellness
maintains a positive relationship with managers who are instrumental
in accommodating the need for restrictions to enable employees
to return to the workplace during their recovery period.

Physiotherapy Service
A full time physiotherapist
in Employee Health, Safety and Wellness provides therapy for
employees with musculoskeletal conditions and injuries. Assessments
to ensure a safe fit with physically demanding jobs, personal
exercise and strengthening programs, and therapy for acute
pain are offered free of charge.
This is what some
of our clients had to say about their experience with our
physiotherapy service:
“Barb takes
time to explain every procedure to be done. She is excellent
in dealing with the Trillium staff.”
“I was impressed
with the thorough assessment, the treatment, the teaching
and the results.”
“I found
Barbara to be a warm and empathetic therapist. Her patience
and caring were significant to my healing process. Her ‘mind,
body & spirit’ approach is a tribute to patient
care.”

Safety Consultant
Trillium’s
Safety Consultant coordinates occupational health hygiene
testing across both hospital sites and is a member of the
hospital’s Joint Health and Safety Committees. The consultant
is also available to troubleshoot on safety issues and provides
support to prevention strategies, including accident investigations.

Standardized Furniture
and Equipment
The expertise of
Trillium’s ergonomic consultants has been instrumental
in achieving standardization in the purchase of key pieces
of furniture and equipment used throughout the hospital in
both patient care areas and office spaces. The expertise of
the team has been tapped to ensure the hospital is purchasing
furniture and equipment that is best suited to meet the physical
demands of its employees. Among the items that have been standardized
are office and task chairs, keyboard trays, patient room chairs,
I.V. poles and wheelchairs for patient transportation.
