About Us
Resources and Services
Our vision is to encourage people to
reclaim, maintain and enhance health through an integrated
approach to health and wellness information. To this
end, we have provided Health Information & Wellness Centres
at both our sites, where you can become more informed about
your health and that of your family. We can help you
in the following ways:
- Provide access to an up to date
collection of consumer health information, in the form of
books, newsletters, brochures and videos
- Provide assistance in accessing
the Internet to retrieve information. Our staff recommend
sites after ensuring that they meet rigorous criteria of
trustworthiness, reliability, accuracy, timeliness and lack
of bias or special interest
- Research and publish our HealthFinder
series of brochures. For over 60 health topics, these
list trustworthy Internet sites, books and DVD's in our
collection, and local community resources. Brief reviews
are provided for the websites, books, and DVD's.
- Put together a package of information
on a particular topic, which can be mailed to your home,
or collected from the Centre. Requests may be made
in person, by phone, or by e-mail
- Suggest local organizations or agencies,
which may be able to provide further assistance and support
- Provide a list of family
doctors in the area who are currently accepting new
patients
- Provide a list
of books, videos, and DVD's in our collection categorized
by health topic. These items are available for two
week loans.
