Medline Plus

Medline Plus is a reliable and trustworthy source of good consumer health information from the U.S. National Library of Medicine.  The site provides authoritative, up to date information on over 600 medical conditions, including over 150 interactive tutorials.  Also offered is access to a medical dictionary, encyclopaedia, clinical trials, and drug information.

Mayo Clinic

An excellent site from the world renowned Mayo clinic in the United States.  Choose from an alphabetical subject list of diseases and conditions, and you will be presented with a comprehensive summary of the condition which includes description, causes, diagnosis, treatment and management.

UpToDate

UpToDate is an evidence based, peer reviewed information resource for both health professionals and patients.  The section for patients provides clearly written articles on numerous health topics, as well as brief extracts of some material aimed at physicians.

Toronto Public Health

Toronto Public Health works to improve the overall health of the population, by providing services to individuals and communities.  This includes protecting against health hazards, preventing disease, and promoting healthy lifestyles.

Peel Public Health

Peel Public Health offers the same kind of information, services and programs to the communities of Mississagua, Brampton and Caledon.

Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care

This site provides access to various health initiatives undertaken by the ministry, for example the extensive diabetes and colon cancer strategies.  You can also find information about OHIP, the assistive devices program, and various health services in the community.

Public Health Agency of Canada

The primary role of this agency is to promote health amongst Canadians, and to prevent and control chronic diseases, injuries, and infectious diseases. Its website provides extensive information on these topics.

Caring for Kids

This excellent site has been developed by the Canadian Paedriatric Society, and is designed to provide parents with information about their child's health and well being.

Motherisk

This is the site of the Motherisk research program at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto . It provides authoritative information regarding the risks to the fetus associated with drug, chemical, infection, disease and radiation exposures during pregnancy.

KidsHealth

There is much useful and reliable information to be found at this site, which is divided into three separate sections for children, teens, and parents - each with its own design and age-appropriate contents. This award-winning site has been developed and is maintained by the Nemours Foundation's Center for Children's Health Media in the United States.
