Alan Torrie Assumes Role of Board Chair of The Credit Valley Hospital and Trillium Health Centre
Jagoda Pike Steps Down as Chair of the Board of the Newly Merge
d Hospital
Today the Board of Directors of the newly merged Credit Valley Hospital and Trillium Health Centre announced that effective immediately, Alan Torrie, current Vice Chair of the Board, will assume the full responsibilities of Board Chair.
Alan Torrie joined the Trillium Board in 2008 and along with initially being appointed Vice Chair also held the role of Chair of Quality Committee. Mr. Torrie is President and CEO of Morneau Shepell Limited, the largest Canadian-owned firm providing human resource consulting and outsourcing services in the areas of pensions, benefits and employee health and assistance programs. Prior to joining Morneau Shepell, Mr. Torrie held a number of senior executive positions for over 25 years in Canadian health care and health and life science companies as Chief Operating Officer of Retirement Residence REIT (Revera), President and CEO of MDS Laboratories and CEO of Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital. He has served on numerous community Boards as past chair and Director of AMREF (African Medical Research and Education Foundation), and is currently on the Board of Appleby College.
The Board of Directors also regretfully announced that Jagoda Pike is stepping down as Board Chair. Ms. Pike has recently been appointed as the CEO of the Homewood Health Centre and as a result will be focusing her time on her new role. In order to respect the needs and priorities of both Homewood and the duties and time commitment involved in serving this Board, Ms. Pike tendered her resignation.
The position of Chair of the Board plays a critical role in ensuring the health care needs and priorities of the residents of Mississauga and West Toronto are fully represented and reflected in all decision-making at the Board level. Ms. Pike has been instrumental in developing a best-practice board governance structure for the newly merged hospital. Most notably, she was a member of a joint governance committee that helped establish the new hospital and presided over the first board meeting where the interim committee structures were appointed and affirmed and new bylaws for the hospital adopted.
“The merger is a top priority for the Board and I’m very pleased to report we have made significant and positive progress with integration efforts in these early days. We will miss Ms. Pike’s expertise and commitment as we move forward with amalgamation,” commented Mr. Torrie, newly appointed Board Chair. “On behalf of the Board of Directors and the hospital, I would like to sincerely thank Ms. Pike for all her efforts and wish her the very best for the future.”
“I have enormous respect for the staff, physicians and volunteers who provide an outstanding level of quality care to the communities of Mississauga and West Toronto each and every day. I am extremely confident that through this merger The Credit Valley Hospital and Trillium Health Centre will continue its leadership as a world-class, community-based academic health network that delivers the very best patient-centred care, closer to home,” said Ms. Pike.
A process to appoint a new vice chair will commence immediately.
