Latest advances in treatment of spinal conditions to be explored at Trillium Health Centre Spine Institute’s 3rd Annual Symposium of Spine Care tomorrow
Orthopaedic surgeons,
neurosurgeons, family practitioners, surgical spine nurses
and allied health professionals working with spines will learn
about the latest advances in evidence based spine surgery
and a lot more, at Trillium Health Centre Spine Institute’s
3rd Annual Symposium of Spine Care tomorrow at the Waterside
Inn in Mississauga.
This year’s theme is Evidence Based Practice in Spine
Surgery, and includes a keynote address on ‘craniocervical
reconstruction: biomechanics to bedside’ by University
of Calgary neurosurgeon, Dr. John Hurlbert.

Learning objectives for spine care professionals attending the Symposium include:
- applying recent best practice advances in spine surgery
- consolidating the latest evidence on minimally invasive surgery
- understanding the use of EMG in diagnosing spine conditions
- updating knowledge in surgical spine surveillance of infections
- appreciating the financial implications of complex spine surgeries for a hospital
- understanding the value of smoking cessation programs for prospective surgical patients and how it will affect the decision for surgery
- knowing the benefits of rehabilitation after surgery
- having knowledge of being an expert witness should they be involved in litigation
