Trillium Health
Centre Recognized as High Performing Hospital in Acute Care
and Rehabilitation Services in 2007 Hospital Reports
Mississauga/West
Toronto - Trillium Health Centre is very proud to be recognized
by the 2007 Hospital Reports as a "high-performing"
hospital for clinical utilization and outcomes in both our
rehabilitation and acute care services.
The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC), the Ontario
Hospital Association (OHA) and the Canadian Institutes for
Health Information (CIHI) released four Hospital Reports today,
concerning Acute Care, Complex Continuing Care, Emergency
Department Care, and Rehabilitation.
"The Trillium Health Centre team is very pleased by the
positive results in this year's Hospital Reports," said
Janet Davidson, O.C., President and CEO of Trillium Health
Centre. "This reaffirms the positive independent feedback
we received earlier this summer during our successful accreditation
by the Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation (CCHSA)
and by the Level III Award we received from the National Quality
Institute (NQI)."
"Trillium is recognized as a leader in community health
care and continues to deliver on its commitment to transform
the health care experience by providing the highest quality
patient-centered care," added Davidson. "While we
continue to make significant improvements, we recognize that
there are still opportunities to improve and we will continue
to work on them."
Hospital Reports 2007 are hospital-specific reports that provide
performance information on Ontario's acute inpatient, emergency,
complex continuing care and rehabilitation services using
a balanced scorecard approach rating hospitals in four categories:
system integration and change; clinical utilization and outcomes;
patient satisfaction; and financial performance.
Within the Clinical Utilization and Outcomes category of the
Hospital Reports, Trillium Rehabilitation scored 'above average
performance' for all nine indicators - the only one of fifty-six
hospitals in the report to do so.
"Trillium's Rehabilitation and Acute Care teams deserve
special congratulations for their efforts. Rehabilitation
staff have worked extremely hard to maximize their patients'
physical and cognitive function through training and education,
and to prepare them to return as quickly as possible to the
community following illness or injury," said Patti Cochrane,
Vice President, Patient Services. "Our acute care team
also scored very well, as did our complex continuing care
and emergency care services. We are very proud of the dedication
and commitment reflected in all four of these reports."
Trillium scored “above average performance” on
at least one indicator within the System Integration and Change
quadrant in all four reports. Trillium has made significant
effort and investment to improve access to information for
external and internal partners, to implement strategies within
the hospital to improve organizational practices, to create
client centered approaches to service delivery and to support
human resources.
In addition to high scores in the Clinical Utilization and
Outcomes quadrant, Trillium showed improvement in the Patient
Satisfaction quadrant, improving our results in many of the
indicators.
Trillium’s Acute Care team scored well on all indicators
within the Clinical Utilization and Outcomes, which emphasize
clinical performance. The three areas in which “above
average performance” was noted were labour and delivery,
readmissions for medical conditions and access to angiography.
Complex Continuing Care scored ‘above average performance’
on four of the 13 indicators, including ‘facility acquired
pressure sores.’ Emergency Care scored well in patient
satisfaction.
The 2007 Hospital Reports, which use data from the fiscal
year 2005-6, are designed to facilitate local quality improvement
programs, encourage openness and transparency in reporting
and to assist hospitals with their accountability to the communities
they serve.
The Hospital Reports are posted on the Ministry of Health
and Long-Term Care (www.health.gov.on.ca), OHA (www.oha.com)
and Canadian Institute for Health Information (www.cihi.ca)
websites.
