Mississauga man walking ‘4 Million Steps’ around England and Wales for Trillium Health Centre

Mississauga-West Toronto – As a long-time resident of Mississauga, Ontario, Chris Wilkinson can attest that Trillium Health Centre has always been there for him, his wife Jian and their family - especially during several health emergencies.

On February 15, 2010, Chris, ‘63-years young’ as he describes himself, is taking a ‘4 Million Step Walk’ – that’s about 3800 kilometers or 2300 miles – around the entire coastline of England and Wales. Starting out from his birthplace of Bournemouth, he will be following the sea-shore on the nearest roads, staying at bed and breakfasts, hostels and, occasionally, the beach.

MEDIA AVAILABILITY - PHOTO/VIDEO OPPORTUNITY
Chris Wilkinson will be available for media interviews and photo/video opportunities:

WHEN:  Tuesday, February 9, 2010
10 a.m. - 11 a.m
WHERE: Trillium Health Centre Foundation offices
Clinical & Administrative Building, 5th Floor
15 Bronte College Court, Mississauga (west off Hurontario, south of Queensway West)

“My ‘4 Million Step Walk’ gives me a chance to re-connect with my homeland and also to support Trillium Health Centre,” says Chris. “I’ve relied on Trillium in the past – once when I was in excruciating agony from kidney stones and once when I had such severe back pain I thought I’d never walk again!”

Trillium’s doctors and nurses are ‘Giving 110%’ to patients. Chris Wilkinson aims to go above and beyond too, to raise funds and awareness for the Health Centre, regional leader in cardiac, mental health, neurosciences, orthopaedics, stroke and vascular care.

Chris and Jian Wilkinson were pleased to be part of the launch of Trillium Health Centre Foundation’s new ‘Giving 110%’ theme at the President’s Circle Reception on October 14, 2009. Foundation President and CEO Steve Hoscheit invited Chris to speak to the 110 guests in attendance about his ‘4 Million Step Walk’.

Giving 110%’ is not easy for many who turn to Trillium – such as the young person struggling with depression, the senior with complex illnesses, the man in cardiac arrest or the woman with a brain tumour.

“Personally, I feel blessed to be able to help,” says Wilkinson. “I’m ‘Giving 110%’ through my “4 Million Step Walk” because I can.”

Wilkinson believes we all have a responsibility to ensure that Trillium Health Centre will be there when we need it. ‘Giving 110%’ to his “4 Million Step Walk” is one step in the right direction.
