24-Hour SPIN for the Hazel McCallion Centre for Heart Health
1,500 riders will pedal stationary bikes February 20 and 21
Mississauga, ON –Trillium Health Centre is putting a new spin on heart health with its 24-Hour Spin, a fundraising event for the Hazel McCallion Centre for Heart Health.
“It’s all about hearts for heart” according to Steve Hoscheit, president and CEO of the Trillium Health Centre Foundation.
24-Hour Spin’s goal is to put more than 1,500 riders on stationary bicycles around the clock beginning at 10 p.m. February 20. Organized in teams, the riders will pedal to raise funds for Trillium’s advanced cardiac care centre, the Hazel McCallion Centre for Heart Health.
“Riders will show the whole community that cyclists have great big hearts. And, since spinning is great for heart health, they’ll be setting an example for us all. They’re real role models!” Hoscheit says, adding that many are dedicating their ride to the community’s great health care champion, Mayor Hazel McCallion, or to someone close to their own hearts.
Heart disease kills more Canadians than any other disease. 24-Hour Spin will fund equipment, programs and research for the Hazel McCallion Centre for Heart Health to provide lifesaving cardiac treatment right here in our community.
“We’re proud that Mattamy Homes will double donations dollar for dollar,” says Hoscheit. Mattamy Homes, Canada’s largest new-home builder, is joining 24-Hour Spin as a Cardiac Champion. With a $250,000 matching gift, every pledge raised by riders will be matched, making their efforts go twice as far to help patients struggling with life-threatening heart conditions.
24-Hour Spin will take place February 20 through 21, 2009 – 10 p.m. Friday through 10 p.m. Saturday – at the Hershey Centre, 5500 Rose Cherry Place, Mississauga.
