Trillium Health Centre’s Incoming CEO Invested into the Order of Canada

Mississauga and West Toronto - Janet Davidson, Trillium Health Centre’s incoming president and CEO, has been invested with the Order of Canada. At a ceremony at Rideau Hall on Friday, February 9, 2007, Ms. Davidson was one of 37 individuals who received their insignia of membership from Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaelle Jean, Governor General of Canada. She was named an Officer of the Order of Canada in recognition of a lifetime of outstanding achievement and dedication to the community, and service to the nation.

Ms. Davidson has travelled the world, offering humanitarian relief to people living in countries ravaged by war, famine or natural disaster. She has served with grace and compassion as vice president of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. During her tenure as national president of the Canadian Red Cross, she deftly guided the organization through a period of transformation, refocusing its mandate. Having held numerous executive positions in three provinces, Ms. Davidson is one of the most senior front-line health care administrators in Canada.

“Volunteering is an act of giving and commitment. It gives every Canadian the opportunity to make a difference. I feel privileged to have been able to make a contribution to an important effort. It is my way of giving back to the community and it would not have been possible without the support and encouragement of so many friends and colleagues over the years,” Ms. Davidson said.

Ms. Catharine Shipp Wells, Chair of Trillium Health Centre, said, “We are honoured that such an exceptional individual will soon be leading our hospital. Her commitment and dedication to the wellness of the people of the world will certainly serve the community well.”

The Order of Canada recognizes people who have made a difference to our country. From local citizens to national and international personalities, all Canadians are eligible for the Order of Canada, our country's highest honour for lifetime achievement. Three different levels of membership honour people whose accomplishments vary in degree and scope: Companion, Officer and Member.

The Order of Canada was established in 1967 to recognize outstanding achievement and service in various fields of human endeavour. Appointments are made on the recommendation of an advisory council, chaired by the Chief Justice of Canada. The motto of the Order is Desiderantes meliorem patriam (They desire a better country).

Ms. Davidson will be joining Trillium Health Centre as president and CEO on March 12, 2007.

Trillium Health Centre is one of Canada’s largest community hospitals with regional programs in cardiac, stroke, neurosurgery, orthopaedic, and sexual assault and domestic violence services. Housing a model ambulatory care centre and the largest free standing day surgery centre in North America, Trillium serves over one million residents in Peel and West Toronto and from other communities across Ontario. With the continued support of the Trillium Health Centre Foundation, the hospital’s fundraising arm, the two-site facility is attracting international attention for its innovative approach to providing health care services and has received numerous national awards for quality and innovation.
