TRILLIUM HEALTH
CENTRE CELEBRATES CONSTRUCTION MILESTONE WITH OPENING OF RENOVATED
FRACTURE CLINIC
MISSISSAUGA - Charles
Sousa, MPP for Mississauga South, joined hospital officials,
community members and health care partners today to celebrate
the grand opening of Trillium Health Centre’s fracture
clinic.
“I am very pleased to help mark this important milestone,”
said MPP Sousa. “It’s exciting to see progress
in another construction project that benefits our entire community.
The opening of this clinic demonstrates the positive steps
underway to meet the province’s objectives for improved
health care delivery.”
The expanded fracture clinic is expected to treat substantially
more patients annually, which will reduce wait times and improve
patients' access to specialized care. Some of the services
to be offered in the new clinic include:
- acute and follow-up fracture care
- advanced casting techniques and care
- consultations with Orthopaedic Surgeons
- routine screening for osteoporosis for patients with ‘fragility
fractures’
- enhanced patient education.
The fracture clinic
was renovated and expanded as part of a larger redevelopment
project that is underway at Trillium Health Centre - Mississauga.
Trillium’s redevelopment project is part of Renew Ontario’s
$30-billion plus public infrastructure investment plan.
Construction work for the redevelopment of Trillium Health
Centre - Mississauga began in June 2007 and is expected to
be completed in late 2009.
Other highlights of the Trillium Health Centre - Mississauga
project include:
- a new cardiac catheterization lab
- an operating room for cardiac surgery
- additional cardiovascular intensive care beds
- additional coronary care beds
- diagnostic and support services for an increase of up
to 135 inpatient beds.
Highlights of the
Trillium Health Centre - West Toronto project include:
- expansion of ambulatory surgical care facilities
- redevelopment and expansion of the Urgent Care Centre
- creation of a cancer detection and treatment facility
- creation of healing gardens
- expansion of a new south entrance
“This is an
exciting time for everyone at Trillium Health Centre,”
said Trillium’s President and CEO Janet Davidson, O.C.
“The redevelopment and expansion of our Fracture Clinic
gives our staff a new patient-centred environment in which
to care for and support our patients and their families. We
greatly appreciate the community’s support of our Diwali
Fundraiser which has helped to make this initiative possible."
Infrastructure Ontario and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term
Care are working with Trillium Health Centre to redevelop
the hospital, which will remain publicly owned, publicly controlled
and publicly accountable. Infrastructure Ontario is a Crown
corporation dedicated to managing some of the province's larger
and more complex infrastructure renewal projects -- ensuring
they are built on time and on budget.
This project is guided by principles outlined in the Province’s
Building a Better Tomorrow framework, which ensures public
ownership of core assets such as hospitals, schools, and water
and wastewater facilities.
