Mississauga/West Toronto – The Doctors are in! The Trillium – Summerville Family Medicine Teaching Unit (FMTU) opened yesterday with the arrival of the first four family medicine residents.  Dr. Ravjit Ahluwalia, Dr. Casey Corkum, Dr. Laurence Biro and Dr. Gaurav Puri graduated recently from medical school and will be completing their specialized post-graduate training in family medicine at the Trillium – Summerville FMTU for two years.

Each of the residents will take on new patients, increasing access to family physicians for the community.

The opening of the FMTU is an exciting opportunity for Trillium Health Centre, one that advances Trillium in its evolution to an academically-affiliated hospital. The four family medicine residents, who are newly licenced physicians, are coming to Trillium - Summerville for two years.

The Trillium – Summerville FMTU is a joint partnership between Trillium Health Centre and the Summerville Family Health Team. It is one of three teaching units opening this year and one of thirteen in the province.  The FMTUs are part of the Ontario Government’s initiative to increase the number of family physicians in the province.

The family medicine residents will work out of the Summerville Family Health Team offices at 101 Queensway West.
For anyone who is in need of a family physician and is interested in registering with one of the residents, please go to Trillium Health Centre’s “Find a Doctor” section on our website at www.trilliumhealthcentre.org/health/findDoctor.html or call 905-272-9900.
