Trillium receives Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation Report and prestigious National Quality Institute Level III Award

Mississauga/West Toronto - Trillium Health Centre is pleased to announce we have received both a Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation (CCHSA) report and a Level III Award from the National Quality Institute (NQI) this week.

“Receiving our three-year Accreditation and the NQI Award in the same week is deeply gratifying. These accomplishments recognize the hard work, leadership and diligence demonstrated by the entire Trillium team,” said Janet Davidson, O.C., President and CEO of Trillium Health Centre. “These achievements demonstrate that Trillium is delivering on its commitment to transform the health care experience through excellence, leadership and patient centredness.”

Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation Survey Report

The Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation (CCHSA), a national, non-profit, independent organization whose mission is to drive quality in health services through accreditation, advised Trillium Health Centre on July 3 that it has been granted a three-year Accreditation with report.

The CCHSA’s overwhelmingly positive report congratulates Trillium for being a leader in national patient safety, in particular:

  • The Mental Health Team’s suicide prevention and awareness program was recognized as a national Leading Practice.
  • The health centre was recognized as having fully implemented all of the 21 Required Organizational Practices (ROPs) according to the five patient safety goal areas: culture, communication, medication use, worklife/workforce and infection control.
  • Trillium received 198 ratings of good to excellent compliance for a list of 200 quality indicators related directly to patient safety. Trillium continues to make progress in the two areas in which a report on environmental improvements is required.

In its report, the CCHSA notes, “Trillium Health Centre has received recognition as a quality organization throughout the health care community on both a provincial and national level… The organization has a real commitment to quality and patient safety along with a well-developed culture of patient safety.”

National Quality Institute Level III Award

Trillium Health Centre is also pleased to announce it has received a National Quality Institute (NQI) Level III Award. NQI is a leading authority in Canada on workplace excellence based on quality systems and healthy workplace criteria.
“Trillium’s sustained commitment to and drive for quality, excellence, employee wellness and continuous improvement has been integral to this success,” said Janet Davidson. “In keeping with the spirit of the NQI Level III award, we will continue our journey of seeking continuous improvements in process management, work/life balance and focusing our priorities.”

In Trillium’s Award notification, NQI cites the following as Trillium’s key strengths:

  • Strong leadership commitment and involvement (reinforcement of Quality and a Healthy Workplace focus)
  • Sharing of ideas and effective practices
  • Staff development opportunities (and resources available)
  • Strong patient/client focus
  • Effective response to patient/client inquiry and input
  • Plans/goals and objectives
  • Leadership/management effectiveness reviews and development
  • Achievement against goals
  • Recognition of individual staff and team contributions

“This recognition strengthens our ability to recruit and retain the very best and brightest people in the field – physicians, nurses, therapists, administrators, and staff,” said Davidson. “It helps to ensure that patients who come through our doors receive the very best care from the very best people.”

The Level III Award means Trillium meets eligibility conditions for NQI’s Canada Awards of Excellence Silver Award. Trillium previously held a Level II Award under NQI’s Progressive Excellence Program. For more information on the National Quality Institute, see: www.nqi.ca.
