MISSISSAUGA/WEST TORONTO, ON –After tallying up the numbers, Trillium Health Centre Foundation is proud to announce that its annual Bike 4 Betty charity cycling fundraiser, which took place on Sunday, May 29 at Port Credit Memorial Park in Mississauga, raised over $200,000 to support cancer care services at Trillium Health Centre.

“Once again, Bike 4 Betty was a great success,” says Steve Hoscheit, president & CEO, Trillium Health Centre Foundation. “It’s incredible to see so many people out to support such a great cause. Everyone who ‘biked for Betty’ has made a tremendous difference for all the patients who suffer from cancer and turn to Trillium for the very best care.”

Despite some early morning rain, over 1,000 members of the community attended the fundraising event to show their commitment to the health care of this community. The sun was shining for the afternoon fun festival which featured inflatable bouncers, clowns, face painting, mascots, barbecue, BMX demonstration and a live broadcast from Toronto radio station, Kiss 92.5 FM.

Proceeds from the event support cancer care services at Trillium Health Centre’s Betty Wallace Women’s Health Centre and the Betty & Buster Lockwood Cancer Detection and Treatment Centre. The funds also count toward the $110 million goal of the Foundation’s Giving 110% campaign to fund hospital-wide priorities at Trillium. Giving 110% to these vital areas will help patients get the very best.
“Cancer took the life of a dear friend of mine, Pamela Wright. When my six-year-old daughter saw this event posted at her school, she asked if we could go. I’m so glad she understands we can all do our part to help fight this disease. We had a wonderful time at Bike 4 Betty,” says Elizabeth Ines, Bike 4 Betty participant.
Now in its 4th year, Trillium Health Centre Foundation’s Bike 4 Betty event was founded by Willson International and Gears Bike Shop.
