Trillium staff to Shave or Streak their hair to save lives
7th annual Shave to Save event supports cancer services at Trillium Health Centre
MISSISSAUGA/WEST TORONTO, ON – Hair today, gone June 6th. Staff from Trillium Health Centre will shave or streak their hair on Monday to raise money for cancer services.
Patients receiving treatment for cancer at the Betty and Buster Lockwood Cancer Detection and Treatment Centre at Trillium Health Centre will benefit greatly from the funds being raised at the 7th annual “Shave to Save” event.
Hospital staff will raise money by taking pledges to shave their hair or by making a donation to have a coloured extension added. Participants cutting off more than 10 inches of hair are also donating that hair to “Angel Hair for Kids.”

Streak for Cancer
A new twist has been added this year – streak for cancer. For a donation of $20, participants can have hairdressers from EROS hair salon in Guelph bond a coloured hair extension to support treatment of a particular type of cancer at the Betty and Buster Lockwood Cancer Centre.
There are 12 colours to choose from, including baby blue – colon cancer; red – melanoma; burgundy – leukemia/lymphoma; dark purple – Jessica's footprint/childhood cancer; teal – ovarian cancer; pink – breast cancer; dark blue – prostate cancer; lilac – all forms of cancer; dark green – lung cancer; light green – organ cancer and silver grey – brain tumours.
Angel Hair for Kids
Participants cutting off more than 10 inches of hair will donate it to the “Angel Hair for Kids” program, a non-profit organization that provides real hair wigs to financially disadvantaged children who have experienced medical hair loss.
Shave to Save
Over $100,000 has been raised in the past six years through “Shave to Save.” Stylists from Michelangelo Hairstyling in Mississauga will perform the shaves and cuts again this year. All money raised this year will be presented to the Trillium Health Centre Foundation and used to directly benefit patient care at the Betty and Buster Lockwood Cancer Detection and Treatment Centre.
This is the 7th annual Shave to Save event at Trillium Health Centre. Shave to Save was started in 2005 by David Tomaz, maintenance representative with Trillium, who has lost several family members to cancer. David started the event in gratitude for the help and care his father received as a patient at Trillium. This event is dedicated to the memory of David's father, Venancio Tomaz, who passed away in September 1991.
