The value of becoming an academic health centre
University of Toronto’s Dr. Catharine Whiteside, Dean, Faculty of Medicine, outlines benefits of academic affiliation at Trillium Health Centre’s Annual General Meeting on June 10
Mississauga/West Toronto - Trillium Health Centre will hold its Annual General Meeting on June 10 at 5 p.m.
Guest speaker Dr. Catharine Whiteside, Dean, Faculty of Medicine and Vice-Provost, Relations with Health Care Institutions, University of Toronto, will discuss the ‘Value Proposition for becoming an Academic Health Centre’ as it relates to Trillium’s academic affiliation with the University of Toronto.
Dr. Whiteside will outline how Trillium’s role as an emerging academic health centre will improve the quality of health care for the whole community, open up opportunities for research and education to build the knowledge economy, and train and attract the next generation of health care professionals.

Trillium’s academic affiliation with the University of Toronto has three components:
- Undergraduate medical education - in partnership with the University of Toronto, University of Toronto Mississauga and The Credit Valley Hospital, Trillium is developing the Mississauga Academy of Medicine at UTM, slated to open in August 2011
- Post-graduate medical education - for residents in several specialties, including General Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Mental Health, Neuro/MSK, Emergency
- Family medicine education - Trillium-Summerville Family Medicine Teaching Unit, a joint partnership between Trillium and the Summerville Family Health Team, in affiliation with Uof T’s Department of Family and Community Medicine, opened in July 2009
Trillium Health Centre’s Annual General Meeting is open to the public. Free parking for attendees is available in the northwest parking lot, opposite the new Inpatient Wing.
