Trillium Health Centre Wins National Health Care Quality
Team Award for Second Consecutive Year
MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO, June 16, 2003 - Trillium
Health Centre has been awarded the prestigious Canadian College
of Health Service Executives and 3M Health Care Quality Team
Award for its innovative ‘Performance Excellence Dashboard’
Presented to Trillium at an awards ceremony in Edmonton last
week, this industry accolade recognizes quality and innovation
as well as exemplary teamwork. Trillium’s award was
for the development of a performance excellence dashboard
- an electronic monitoring and measurement tool used to support
strategic decision-making, quality initiatives and measures.
“Trillium’s submission was a unique, ground-up
development” comments Gaston Levac, President and CEO
of CCHSE. “They continue to demonstrate leadership and
innovation in healthcare.” The Trillium Health Centre
of Mississauga is a repeat winner in the acute care category,
having received the award last year for its Queensway ambulatory
Site’s innovation in delivering day surgery.
“Like many organizations, Trillium collected vast amounts
of data,” observes Ken White, President & CEO of
Trillium Health Centre, “however, while data was abundant,
it actually provided little useful information. In fact, rather
than supporting individuals and teams in their decision-making,
the overwhelming amount of data was confusing.” The
Performance Excellence Dashboard allows Trillium to dovetail
data and information into relevant, useful knowledge, supporting
Trillum’s health professionals to make good and timely
decisions.
The significance of this innovation crosses many health care
boundaries. For data measurement and indicator development,
the Dashboard is cutting edge in the cohesiveness of information
and responsiveness to data. In strategic planning the Dashboard
focuses the entire organization on priorities and provides
useful information about effectiveness in achieving the priorities.
For the community and patients, the capabilities of the Dashboard
enables health professionals to focus on improvements in care
and services as the information they need is available, reliable
and accessible.
The 3M Health Care Quality Team Award was created to encourage
and recognize teams within healthcare organizations who use
the quality process to create measurable benefits within their
programs and services. It encourages institutions and health
care providers to embrace quality management by developing
innovative approaches that bring about sustainable improvement
in programs and services. 3M is a diversified, international
company with a health care business consisting of more than
10,000 medical, surgical, consumer, home health care, dental
and pharmaceutical products.
The Canadian College of Health Service Executives is the national
professional association and certification body for healthcare
administrators and healthcare managers.
