Mississauga/West Toronto (June 23) – Join in the fun as twenty-four teams, each joined by a professional golfer, will tee off in support of a unique, life-saving program offered at Trillium Health Centre’s Hazel McCallion Centre for Heart Health – Electrophysiology.

With the support of our lead sponsor, Scotiabank Group, our golfers are playing to raise $200,000 toward equipment to treat heart rhythm disturbances. Also known as ‘arrhythmias’, these abnormal heart beats affect thousands of Ontarians and are a common cause of death and disability.

The Hazel McCallion Centre for Heart Health is one of only a few cardiac centres in Ontario offering electrophysiology, the study of the heart rhythm. Using sophisticated equipment, specialists diagnose and determine the best treatment. Implanting an Internal Cardioverter Defibrillators (ICD) is the best way to restore a seriously abnormal heart beat.

Because the demand for ICDs is growing exponentially, we need to acquire more for patients whose quality of life is severely compromised. Proceeds of this year’s Pro-Am will support the purchase of more ICDs.

Since its inception in 1993, the Pro-Am event has raised over $2 million for Trillium Health Centre’s Cardiac Care Program.  Scotiabank is the Lead Sponsor for the 13th consecutive year, led by Chair Barbara Foster.
