Volunteer donates her time to Trillium: invests in career and education
Mississauga/West Toronto – Need more job experience? Considering a career in health care but don’t know much about it? Want to feel you’re making a difference in people’s lives? Eager to develop new skills? Want to give back to your community in a meaningful way?
Volunteering at Trillium Health Centre could be your answer. It’s the place to be if you want to give back, help your community - and make progress on reaching your personal and professional goals.
One volunteer, Paula Rosowicz, started volunteering at Trillium Health Centre in 2007 when she was still in high school. She donated her time to other organizations over the years but found her experience at Trillium more fulfilling so she decided to make it a long term commitment.
Having worked in a variety of patient care areas throughout the hospital, Paula is now a Volunteer Team Captain and is in her second year of university studying Public Health and Safety.
“I love working with patients and interacting with a variety of people. It’s so rewarding to see patients improve,” says Rosowicz. “In addition to the personal gratification I get at Trillium, I am also developing interpersonal and leadership skills, and learning to be respectful of people’s diverse backgrounds. This will help me when I begin my career as a Public Health Inspector. By giving to Trillium, I am giving to myself.”
When you invest in Trillium, Trillium makes an investment in you. Trillium is a volunteer-centered organization that believes quality patient care begins with finding good people then giving them the tools and training they need to succeed throughout our whole organization. That’s why the organization invests in the development of its volunteers as well as our staff and physicians.
Opportunities include:
- Leadership and skills development
- Learning events
- Social and professional networking opportunities
- Recognition awards
“Most people find they get back so much more than they give when they volunteer,” said Janet Davidson, O.C. President and CEO, Trillium Health Centre. “When you invest in your community, you make an investment in yourself.”
Trillium Health Centre has an active volunteer team of 1,100 men and women. It is recruiting for 200 new volunteers to help patients at its locations in Mississauga and West Toronto.
“Volunteers play a very significant role in our hospital, supporting our staff and helping provide our patients and their families with the best possible patient experience,” said Davidson. “They contribute to the well-being of our community in ways that are both important to our hospital and deeply rewarding for their own personal growth. If you’re ready to make an investment in yourself, please give us a call. We need your help – and we can help you.”
