Learn about "Healthy Bladder Habits as We Age"
Trillium Health Centre offers free Continence Education sessions in north Mississauga on March 30 and April 7
Mississauga/West Toronto –Statistics show that one in four women and one in 10 men will experience incontinence at some time in their lives. Unfortunately, many people struggle to deal with bladder or bowel concerns
such as frequency, urgency, leaking or chronic constipation, and feel embarrassed, alone and unsure of how or where to get help.
To increase accessibility to continence education and services, Trillium Health Centre will be expanding its continence program for seniors. As part of this expansion, Trillium is holding free information sessions on March 30 and April 7, so residents of north Mississauga and the surrounding area can learn more about "Healthy Bladder Habits as We Age" including the types of incontinence, contributing factors and treatment options.
“Every person who experiences incontinence has a unique situation and story to tell. Many people live with continence problems in isolation, in secret and, often for extended periods of time,” says Laura Robbs, Clinical Nurse Specialist-Continence, Trillium Health Centre. “Most people are relieved to find out they are not alone. Their quality of life improves when they learn how to better manage their situation.”

Trillium is pleased to announce that it is expanding and enhancing continence services that it has been providing to Mississauga and West Toronto residents since 2000 to residences of north Mississauga. As part of a Mississauga Halton LHIN’s Aging at Home initiative, Trillium will be opening a new community-based Continence Clinic in north Mississauga at Heritage Glen Community for Seniors, which will accept self referrals from the public (a physician referral is not required), on April 28.
Trillium’s new north Mississauga Continence Clinic will serve seniors or adults over the age of 55 with age-related problems (such as heart disease, arthritis etc.) who go to the bathroom often, worry about falling when rushing to the bathroom, leak urine with a cough, laugh, sneeze or during activity, or have other bowel problems. Call the regional seniors health central intake line to book an appointment at the new clinic after April 28 at 416-521-4090.
“The new Regional Continence Program for Seniors will focus on improving the health, wellness and quality of life for seniors by maximizing continence,” says Laura Robbs, Clinical Nurse Specialist-Continence, Trillium Health Centre. “To improve accessibility to the clinics, we are accepting self referrals from the public. You can call us directly and discreetly, you don’t need a doctor’s referral anymore. We hope people will come to the free education sessions to learn more about this very important issue.”
To reserve your seat for the education session or for more information on the Trillium Health Centre Continence Clinic in north Mississauga, please call Laura Robbs, RN, at 905-848-7580 extension 3267 or email lrobbs@thc.on.ca.
