MISSISSAUGA/WEST TORONTO, ON – Trillium Health Centre Foundation is proud to announce that, thanks to the generosity of our community donors, it has funded the purchase of two new digital mammography machines for Trillium Health Centre. The result will be improved access and patient care for women in the community.
The Foundation celebrated the new machines with staff on April 27 at the Betty Wallace Women’s Health Centre at Trillium - West Toronto and on April 28 in the Diagnostic Imaging unit at Trillium - Mississauga.
Every year, Trillium must invest millions of dollars in equipment and technology to make tangible improvements in care. The new digital mammography machines will result in more accurate scans, shorter wait times and less exposure to radiation for Trillium’s patients.
They will also improve patient comfort; reduce procedure time by about 30 per cent; yield more detailed imaging allowing for better diagnosis; create a greater capacity to handle a larger volume of patients; and allow for staff to seamlessly track thousands of digital images.
“It is so important that our patients benefit from the latest innovations and breakthrough technologies that are transforming the Diagnostic Imaging landscape,” says Dr. William Magnuson, Chief Radiologist, Trillium Health Centre. “The new digital mammography machines will greatly increase the comfort of our patients and the speed and quality of the images will help us diagnose and treat them more quickly and accurately.”
Trillium Health Centre and the Foundation believe strongly in continuously improving the patient care experience for every one of the over 760,000 people who come though the hospital’s doors each year.
The purchase of the new digital mammography machines is part of the Foundation’s Giving 110% campaign to raise $110 million for hospital-wide priorities at Trillium. Generous gifts from our community help to purchase this kind of leading-edge medical equipment. In the hands of our skilled clinicians, these tools will lead to faster, more accurate diagnosis and more innovative treatments that improve patient outcomes and decrease wait times.
“The Giving 110% campaign is all about providing our health care team with the tools they need to provide the very best care to our community,” says Steve Hoscheit, president and CEO, Trillium Health Centre Foundation. “Technology is such a powerful enabler, and the Foundation is very grateful to our generous donors who help bring advanced equipment like the new digital mammography machines to Trillium.”
