Trillium Health Centre Wins OHA Awards at HealthAchieve 2011

Mississauga/West Toronto (November 17, 2011) –Trillium Health Centre is pleased to announce it has received two awards from the Ontario Hospital Association at HealthAchieve 2011. Trillium received the Leading Practices Electronic Display Award in the Patient Safety and Quality category as well as Overall Winner of the Leading Practices.

“We are quite honoured to receive these awards,” said Janet Davidson, O.C., Trillium’s president and CEO. “This recognition highlights Trillium’s commitment to providing the highest quality care and the exemplary work of our clinical staff to enhance patient safety.”

Both awards recognize a Trillium leading practice presentation entitled A Nurse-Led Clinical Protocol at Trillium Health Centre: Significant Reductions in Unnecessary Urinary Catheters.

“Catheter dwell time is a major risk factor for development of urinary tract infections,” said Dr. Amir Ginzburg, physician director of quality patient safety at Trillium. “The protocol demonstrated that catheter clinical practice can be improved and that these improvements are sustainable.”

A Trillium clinical nurse specialist, Laura Robbs observed, “The protocol has enhanced patients’ experience of safe, high quality care by reducing the risks associated with the ongoing use of a medical device.”
