Business leader
Fred Ketchen responds to Trillium’s Cardiac Challenge
with a Donation of $1 Million in Securities
Mississauga/West
Toronto – Trillium Health Centre Foundation launched
a $15 million Cardiac Challenge in support of Trillium’s
Advanced Cardiac Centre on Tuesday at the President’s
Circle Reception at LIVE Cuisine Restaurant at the Living
Arts Centre in Mississauga.
Trillium’s Cardiac Challenge got a huge boost - in the
form of a $1,000,000 gift - from local business leader Fred
Ketchen, who announced he is the first “Cardiac Champion.”
Trillium’s Advanced Cardiac Centre helps prevent heart
attacks, protects against heart disease and prolongs quality
of life of heart attack patients. Funds donated to the Cardiac
Challenge will touch all areas of cardiac care at Trillium
from prevention and diagnosis to treatment, research and education.
Fred Ketchen will match all donations to the Cardiac Challenge,
at a 1 to 1 ratio, to a total of $1,000,000 in donations over
the next 15 months. When every second counts, your donation
counts twice.
“Fred has been one of Trillium’s most committed
supporters for many years. It is absolutely wonderful that
he has stepped forward to be the catalyst for this very important
campaign and a beacon for the community,” says Dennis
Cartwright, Chair, Trillium Health Centre Foundation.
Fred will be donating his entire gift in the form of securities.
Donating publicly traded securities to the Trillium Health
Centre Foundation means that he will not have to pay tax on
the capital gains and his gift is still eligible for a charitable
tax receipt.
The Foundation is hoping that other ‘Cardiac Champions’
like Fred are willing to come forward and inspire our community
to donate by matching their gifts. Donating to Trillium Health
Care Centre’s Advanced Cardiac Centre gives you the
legacy of improving and protecting the lives of your family,
your neighbours, your colleagues, your community.
“We hope that Fred's leadership inspires other "Cardiac
Champions" to step up to help Trillium remain one of
the finest cardiac centres in the country. We want to secure
$7.5 million from "Cardiac Champions" that will
be matched by the community for a total of $15 million,"
says Jennifer Laughton, Director Leadership Gifts.
