Trillium Health Centre Project Management Office Receives
Provincial Award
Mississauga, Ontario, January 13, 2004 - In only its second
year of operation and only one year since launching the training
program, Trillium Health Centre's Project Management Office
(PMO) has received the Ontario Top Training Excellence Recognition
Award (OTTER). Presented by the Canadian Society for
Training and Development (CSTD), Trillium won in the Best
Internal Training Program II category (programs designed for
exclusive use with a large enterprise), for their Straightforward
Tools and Techniques (STAT) Project Management Training.
"This is a wonderful honour for our team," says
Shelley Mosley, Director, Project Management Office. "As
a relatively new team, we are so excited to be recognized
for a program that contributes to the skill set needed in
an innovative and progressive environment such as Trillium."
The program and training was developed by a knowledgeable,
highly creative and focused group of individuals from the
PMO with support from Trillium's Organizational Development
department.
Project Management Training is a learner-friendly, two-day
course conducted in an intimate environment conducive to dialogue.
Ten to 12 employees participate in each session, which
is open to all Trillium staff. The learning can be applied
to any project and many graduates of the training program
use the tools in their day-to-day duties.
"This program is simple and easy to use," says Shelley
Mosley. "It provides support for every aspect of project
development, which helps individuals and teams to work through
the steps quickly, efficiently, and effectively. People can
use as much or as little of the methodology they need to manage
their projects. It's very flexible."
"The Project Management Methodology and training give
support to staff in developing skills that empower and enrich
the quality of life at Trillium. It is designed to
integrate other planning, execution and performance monitoring
processes that lead to the success of the project and to organizational
success as a whole," says Caroline Brereton, Vice President,
People Support Services.
Feedback from participants has been tremendous.
"Preparing a project plan can assist you in thinking
about everything you need to do before you do it," said
one satisfied participant. "These are great tools.
They will assist me in asking the right questions. The course
should be given to all members of the team."
"Getting information and putting information into the
right hands at the right time is extremely important to any
project," says Wayne Mills, Vice President, Information Services.
"Project Management Training helps people understand the information
and knowledge they need before they need it."
Project Management Methodology, while widely used in the
private sector, is new to health care and a broadly based
in-house PMO is unique to Trillium. The PMO provides
project management processes, tools, training and ongoing
facilitation and support for staff who require assistance
with projects.
