Trillium lauded for service

Trillium Health Centre (THC) has been recognized with a national award for it’s ambulatory care centre.

THC took home the Canadian College of Health Service Executive and 3M Health Care Quality Team Award for it’s “innovative” and “highly successful” centre at its Queensway site in Etobicoke.

The submission focused on the medical and surgical facilities within the centre. This innovative centre is evidence of remarkable quality improvement in ambulatory care involving and exceptional …team dedicated to superlative patient care,” said Wendy Nelson, vice-president of patient services at THC.

The award criteria demanded results-oriented projects that demonstrate improved programs or services for the community, among other measures.

“What I saw was a very strategic initiative with excellent information analysis and evidence of really good outcomes from both the financial and patient satisfaction perspective,” said award adjudicator Larry McBride, also manager of 3M Health Care Services.

The judges were impressed with a lot from the THC including:

  • More than 9,000 patients being served annually at the ambulatory centre
  • Outpatient surgical volumes being doubled in the past three years.
  • Annual savings of $2.56 million from transferring patients needing day surgery from THC’s Mississauga site to Etobicoke site.
