For Our Patients

Billing and Additional Charges

During your stay with us, please expect additional charges that are not covered by insurance companies. We will keep a record of those expenses and bill you on the day you leave Trillium.

The following items are not paid for by the Ontario Hospital Insurance Program (OHIP):

  • The cost to stay in a semi-private or private room
  • The cost of walking aids, including crutches, canes or walkers, braces (back, upper extremity, lower extremity), assistive aids (reachers, long-handled shoehorns, elastic shoelaces), and therapeutic equipment (theraputty).  For bracing, some devices are partially covered by Assistive Device Program (ADP) and our orthopaedic technicians will help you with the application for funding.   
  • The cost of walking aids, including crutches, canes or walkers, other assisted devices
  • The cost of uninsured procedures
  • The cost of ambulance services
  • Telephone service

Room Costs

Provincial health insurance covers standard ward accommodations only. If you request and receive a semi-private or private room, you must make payment arrangements before you are admitted. If you do not have supplementary insurance coverage and request a semi-private or private room, we will ask you to pay by cash, cheque, Visa or MasterCard. We recommend you check with your insurance company because you must pay for any portion not paid by your insurance provider.

For Uninsured Canadian Residents and Non-Residents

If you are a Canadian resident but do not have valid health coverage you will be required to pay for your visit/hospitalization at the time of service/admission. Please contact Patient Accounts Department- at Mississauga location: 905-848-7580 extension  2420 or 2496; at West Toronto location please call 416-521-4040.

If you are a non-Canadian resident/visitor, you are required to pay for your visit/hospitalization at the time of service/admission.  If you have private medical coverage, it is your responsibility to pay the hospital and claim your insurance. Please contact Patient Accounts Department- at Mississauga location: 905-848-7580 extension 2420 or 2496; at West Toronto location please call 416-521-4040.

Uninsured Canadian residents and non-Canadian residents/visitors will be charged for the full Standard room daily rate.  If uninsured Canadian residents and non-Canadian residents/visitors choose semi-private or private room, the charge will be the Standard room plus the incremental charge for semi-private or private.

If you have any questions about your health insurance coverage or non-insured services, please call our Patients Accounts Department at 416-521-4040 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday.

How to Pay Your Hospital Bill

Please pay your bill at our Patient Accounts office, located in our Emergency Department on the right hand side of the patient waiting area at our Mississauga location. At West Toronto, our Patient Accounts office is located at 160 Appleton Building, 2nd floor.

Our hours of operation are from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.  We accept major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard and Amex), debit cards, cash or cheque.
