At Trillium Health Centre, Registered Dietitians work with the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement nutrition care plans. Nutrition care can prevent malnutrition, improve nutritional status as well as improve or decrease the impact of many conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension and obesity.
Trillium’s registered dietitians are dedicated to providing innovative nutrition care to patients and the community
Protecting Patient Health
Registered dietitians assess the nutritional needs of patients with a medical illness that puts them at nutritional risk. This includes a review and assessment of medical history, diet history, medications, laboratory values, and nutrition physical examination. Based on the assessment, an appropriate nutrition care plan is developed. Nutrition care plans are patient-centred and may include diet modifications, vitamins, minerals, or medications. Registered dietitians may also suggest nutrition therapy such as tube feeding or intravenous nutrition when required and provide nutrition education, counseling and support to patients and their families.
Dietitians also act as a resource for health professionals, as well as conducting and participating in nutrition related research. Registered Dietitians provide education and mentorship to dietetic interns and other students.
We also have a team of registered dietitians that work in some outpatient clinics such as Pediatric Nutrition Clinic, Oncology Clinic, Heart Function Clinic, Cardiac Wellness and Rehabilitation and the Diabetes Management Centre.
