Rehabilitation Services
Trillium Health Centre offers a broad range of rehabilitation
services supporting both inpatient and outpatient services.
Physiotherapists and Physical Therapy
Assistants assess
and treat clients with a variety of musculoskeletal, cardiorespiratory
or neurological conditions, improving and maintaining functional
independence and physical performance, preventing and managing
pain, physical impairments, disabilities and limits to participation,
and promotion of fitness, health and wellness. They are active
members of teams in each of the Health Systems.
Occupational Therapists and Occupational
Therapy Assistants assist individuals in developing or maintaining life roles
and activities at home and in the community, using a variety
of assessment and treatment techniques. They provide services
to people whose ability to function in everyday living has
been disrupted by physical illness or injury, developmental
problems, the aging process, mental illness or emotional
problems. They work in all Health Systems
Speech-Language Pathologists offer a wide range of services
from paediatric to geriatric. They can be found working in
a variety of inpatient and outpatient services for adults
with acquired, medically-based speech, language, voice, swallowing
and cognitive communication disorders, as well as supporting
children through the Paediatric Outpatient Services Program
and the Peel Pre-School Speech and Language Initiative. A
Communicative Disorders Assistant provides patient therapy
as well as technical support.
Therapeutic Recreationists utilize treatment, education
and recreation participation to enable persons with physical,
cognitive, emotional and/or social limitations to acquire
and/or maintain the skills, knowledge and behaviours that
will allow them to enjoy their leisure optimally. Trillium’s
Therapeutic Recreationists practice in the Medicine Health
System, on the rehabilitation units, in Complex Continuing
Care, Inpatient Geriatric Mental Health and in the Rehabilitation
Day Hospital.
Chiropodists assess and treat foot ailments or disorders
using therapeutic and orthotic means. The Chiropody Clinic
focuses on management of the high-risk foot such as in Type
1 Diabetes, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Peripheral Vascular
Disease, chronic pathological nail and skin conditions and
biomechanical and congenital foot disorders.
