Ergonomic Consultants
Trillium Health Centre recognizes the importance of ergonomics and body mechanics training and consultation to prevent injury to workers (staff, physicians, volunteers and students) while on the job. The "Ergonomic Consultants" in this facility are Occupational Therapists by profession.
Occupational therapists are well-suited to this position as they have knowledge about the etiology and management of musculoskeletal repetitive/strain and neck and back injuries; have a strong theoretical and practical background in activity/task analysis; are creative problem solvers; and take a unique and holistic approach to prevention and intervention which considers the environment, the task and the person.
The Ergonomic Consultant provides education to all staff about maintaining good posture and body mechanics while engaging in work tasks; consultation about ergonomics (work station design, employee work methods and equipment which reduces repetition, force and awkward postures; and employee/employer responsibilities with respect to maintaining a safe and healthy working environment.
