Teaching Future Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians

Training Programs

We help train the pharmacists and pharmacy technicians of the future. Pharmacist(s) and technician(s) from the department are on faculty at the University of Toronto, at Humber College and Sheridan College respectively.

The Pharmacy department has preceptors affiliated with the University of Toronto who supervise fourth year pharmacist students’ practical placements. The department also participates in practical placements for PharmD students from the University of Toronto as well as other universities.

Student Positions

The department hires pharmacist interns, pharmacy summer students and accepts placements for pharmacy technician students from Community Colleges. The department is also a supporter of the high school co-op programs. 

Residency

Trillium is an accredited Hospital Pharmacy practice site.  The pharmacy residency program is a 12-month, directed, postgraduate learning experience. Through structured rotations with highly skilled preceptors, the areas of clinical skills development, research, and administration will be emphasized. The aim is to prepare pharmacists for challenging and innovative hospital pharmacy practice.

The objective of residency program is:

  • to provide an experiential learning environment using practitioner role models. To gain the necessary skills, knowledge and values to be an effective hospital pharmacist.
  • to train and promote highly qualified and progressive pharmacists in institutional practice.
  • to encourage future leaders of the profession

Rotations include: Coronary Care, Emergency Medicine, Intensive Care, Infectious Diseases, Internal Medicine, Nephrology, Neurosurgery, Paediatrics, and Drug Distribution.
