A Focus on Ambulatory Care
Already recognized
by the Ontario Hospital Association for its groundbreaking
work, Trillium Health Centre is leading the way to a radically
different health care future.
It’s called Ambulatory Care.
Ambulatory Care
means your hospital will become an easy-to-use environment
of warm, welcoming spaces where care is integrated with your
life.
For you and your family, Ambulatory
Care — medical care delivered in less than 24 hours
to patients who arrive and leave on their own — means
less waiting time and easier access to diagnosis and treatment.
Back to your life
sooner
It means minimally invasive medical
procedures, so you can get back to your life sooner.
And it means the
health care you receive will be seamless. Using the latest
technology, your family doctor, your hospital and other health
care providers will work together to maintain your health,
treat your illness or support you in dealing with chronic
problems.
In other words, health care will become
an integral part of a normal, healthy life — not something
that happens in a crisis.
To create our vision of a world-class
Ambulatory Care Centre at Trillium Health Centre – West
Toronto, we’re focusing on finding out what you need
and providing it in innovative ways that acknowledge you’re
a person with a life, a family, a job.
One-stop shopping
In the future, for example, a patient
will be able to “one-stop shop”: if you visit
Trillium’s Surgicentre for a pre-operative consultation,
you will be able to schedule your diabetes check-up for the
same time period. One less trip in a busy life.
And if you’re
a day surgery patient who is the sole caregiver for your elderly
mother, we’re going to help you figure out who will
look after her while you’re here and who’s going
to look after you when you get home.
At the Surgicentre, day surgeries
will more and more often replace lengthier hospital stays
thanks to new techniques and technologies. To meet the need,
two new minimally invasive suites are being added.
A new “diagnostic
mall” will provide an easy-to-access space where you’ll
be able to find the services you need without traveling a
labyrinth of corridors. The diagnostic tests themselves will,
in the near future, be completely digital. That means less
waiting time and faster results, instantly shared.
Trillium’s
focus on Ambulatory Care is easing the burden on our health
care system. In a time when creating a sustainable health
care system is on everyone’s mind, Trillium is making
changes that improve not just the system, but health care
itself.
