Redevelopment at Trillium
Construction Update
– Progress Report - November 1, 2007
West Toronto
Foundation pours
for the project have been completed. The Urgent Care South
Entrance canopy was removed on October 10th and 11th. Photos
of the demolition, as well as “after” shots, are
available on the Construction Photo Gallery.
Work to tie in the water main to existing hospital facilities,
final flushing and testing is underway at West Toronto. Mechanical
and electrical rough-ins are ongoing on the main floor of
the hospital for the Urgent Care Centre and South entrance
renovation work.
On the second floor, installation of mechanical and electrical
services, wall studs and drywall is underway for the new Betty
and Buster Lockwood Cancer Detection & Treatment Centre.
Mississauga New
Wing
Construction on
the new wing has progressed to the third level. The west section
of the third level floor slab and a portion of the transition
section noted above was poured in mid-October.
Work on the main level floor slab with the connection being
made to the existing hospital has proceeded. The transition
level between the existing hospital's second floor and the
new wing's second floor is underway. Work will involve chipping
and removal of brick, insulation etc., in order to expose
the underlying conditions at the slab edges and make ready
for future connections.
The floor slab for the service tunnel has been poured and
preparation to form up the tunnel walls encapsulating the
underground service lines has begun. EllisDon and Trillium’s
Facilities team are working together to reconnect a buried
electrical feed.
Contractors isolated the main water feed running through the
construction area in order to install a new valve. This work
has slightly delayed work on the service tunnel due to the
inherent risk associated with the potential of a major water
leak.
Mississauga Renovations
The new roof over
the Cath Lab area on the second floor is nearing completion.
Installation of a skylight over the new Cath Lab waiting area
will take place within the next two weeks.
Window replacement work on the third floor is complete with
the exception of one room. Discovered building anomaly has
resulted in an adjustment to the window wall assembly at that
location and investigative work is underway to be followed
by window replacement work.
Mechanical and electrical services installation inside framed
walls is nearing completion in the second floor renovation
area. Drywall installation work and suspended ceiling work
is also underway. Selective demolition work along the 2D (Cardiac)
Corridor to create new openings also began this month
Mechanical and electrical services rough-in work and drywall
installation on the main floor is nearing completion. The
electrical services work to pull new power cables from the
main electrical room over the existing roof (west side), through
the main floor corridor and up to the second floor will be
completed by mid-November. A section of the corridor between
the MRI and Fracture Clinic will be closed to hospital traffic
for renovations, as part of the Phase 1 construction project.
Please check our website for more information on this closure.
Ground floor new service tunnel excavation work has been completed.
Concrete will be pumped into the tunnel to form the new floor.
Your support and cooperation are much appreciated during this
time.
