Redevelopment at Trillium
Construction Update
– Progress Report - September 4, 2007
Mississauga New
Wing
This month, one
of the last major foundation footings for the New Wing was
poured. This footing will support the columns that will be
seen at the north side of each floor’s Central Care
Desk. Contractors also exposed existing water mains into the
building to determine the location of the new connection.
Work on the new service tunnel which will link the existing
hospital to the New Wing Tower continued in August. The first
section of main floor slab was poured in late August and the
bottom reinforcement for the next section is underway. Once
this work is completed, the upper layer of reinforcement will
be placed. The next section of slab will be poured the first
week of September.
Mississauga Renovations
On the Main Floor,
minor removals and rough-in of mechanical & electrical
services continue. A portion of the flooring surface requires
shot blasting to clean the existing terrazzo floor. As a result,
on August 20th, a new corridor parallel with the current corridor
on the Main Floor was constructed. This has not impacted traffic
flow. Window replacements on the Third Floor began this month
and are expected to be completed by late September. The Second
Floor roof removal work is also in progress. Cutting of the
concreted roof slab is underway and a small portion will be
removed in the coming weeks. Installations and wall framing
are in progress on the Second Floor and the layout of the
new area is beginning to take shape. Minor removals and rough-in
of mechanical & electrical services continue on the Main
Floor.
West Toronto
Significant progress
was made this month with the completion of the demolition
of the old administration and old main entrance areas. Following
this, excavation and installation of footings and foundation
members associated with the new build began. Roof slab reinforcement
members installation was completed over the Surgicentre (Day
Surgery) waiting area. Work is moving ahead on the first and
second floor renovations portions of the project. As exterior
work to the south entrance continues, caissons were completed
in late August as per schedule. Demolition work on the Ground
Floor is completed, while work on the Second Floor continues
with boarding walls, framing drywall ceilings and taping.
Your support is much appreciated during this time.
