Transformingthe Health Care Experience

Redevelopment at Trillium

Trillium Health Centre is transforming health care to deliver patient-centred health care in a warm and welcoming environment that redefines the notion of a hospital.

We’ve already made great strides in achieving our goal but the momentum is increasing as we create new spaces and renovate existing facilities at our West Toronto and Mississauga locations.

The renovations integrate creative architecture, the best clinical practices, state-of-the-art technology and patient-centred care.

Work began in March 2007 and is made possible through a partnership between the Province of Ontario and Trillium Health Centre with the support of our community.

West Toronto - The Trillium Way

The Trillium Way will welcome patients and visitors with a warm and sun-filled environment that is barrier-free and easy to navigate. This innovative design will feature wide open and inviting spaces, comfortable furnishings and a living wall of plants – The Healing Garden – to nurture the spirit and help re-define the notion of a hospital.

The Trillium Way is home to Trillium's award-winning Ambulatory Care Centre.

Ambulatory Care Centre

The Ambulatory Care Centre at Trillium – West Toronto will have several entrances so patients can park closest to the service area they need. Trillium will be a place where health, wellness and the human spirit are nurtured together. Several programs and services are offered under the umbrella of Ambulatory Care at Trillium including:

  • a dedicated women's health centre
  • spine centre
  • cardiac wellness and rehabilitation centre
  • day surgery centre
  • medical and surgical clinics
  • diabetes management centre
  • rehabilitation services

Urgent Care Centre

Last year, more than 38,000 patients visited Trillium’s Urgent Care Centre at West Toronto. The Centre will be enhanced to provide an even higher standard of care in more efficient and comfortable surroundings. State-of-the art technology will blend with the amenities and ambience of a health and wellness centre, complete with skylight and natural materials. The new Urgent Care Centre is built around the concept of a circle: inclusive, unified and harmonious.

The Betty and Buster Lockwood Cancer Detection and Treatment Centre

Currently housed at Trillium Health Centre – Mississauga, the Oncology Clinic will move to Trillium Health Centre – West Toronto. There, a complete array of services from diagnosis to palliative care will serve more than 20,000 outpatient visits each year. In its new space, the Lockwood Centre will include better examination and treatment facilities and access to state-of-the-art diagnostics.  Facilities and programs will include:

  • Pain and symptom management clinic
  • Support for cancer patients who wish to live at home while managing their symptoms, minimizing hospital admissions and ER visits
  • Radiation Oncology Clinic
  • Consultation for patients scheduled to undergo radiation treatment
  • Neuro-Oncology Clinic
  • Post-neurosurgery follow up for patients who have brain cancer
  • Infusion Clinic
  • Support for patients provided with chemotherapy in their homes.

There are also plans for expansion of The Betty Wallace Women’s Health Centre including a new breast ultrasound capability and an additional mammography unit.

Mississauga

New Wing

A new seven-storey inpatient wing will showcase the innovative thinking and patient-centred philosophy fueling Trillium’s mission to transform the health care experience. The wing will provide 135 new beds in patient-friendly, barrier-free rooms. Each patient space features a window, privacy and plenty of room for visitors.

The building itself will use energy efficient materials, significantly reducing operating costs. Trillium is a recognized leader in sustainable energy practice; it is the first multi-site hospital in the world to be awarded ISO 14001 for its environmental standards.

The new wing will provide new spaces for our Paediatric Care Unit, Oncology Unit and Cardiac Centre. Construction began in March 2007 and will be completed by spring 2009.

Cardiac Centre

A new Cardiac Centre will offer patients leading-edge expertise and the latest diagnostics and treatment technology, including a new Cardiac Catheterization Lab and a third Cardiac Operating Room. This additional capacity will ensure our program’s ability to manage current and future volumes. The cardiac expansion is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2008.
