A Message From Our President of
the Volunteers of Trillium Health Centre
 |
| Percy
Elliott, President,
Volunteers
of Trillium Health Centre
|
This has been a
year of celebration for the Volunteers of Trillium Health
Centre. Our corporate holdings and various fund raising activities
continue to produce exceptional profits, allowing us to turn
over $800,000 to Trillium Health Centre. Our greatest
moment of pride came at the Annual Volunteer Banquet where
we made the final installment on our $5-million pledge to
the Trillium Health Centre Foundation. This is a remarkable
accomplishment and a testament to the strength of our volunteer
team. Since 1998, the Volunteers of Trillium has donated
$8.3 million to our health centre.
The Volunteers of
Trillium took on a new role this year, assuming responsibility
for retail property management within Trillium. Among
our first tasks was successfully leasing the commercial space
in the new Clinical and Administration Building. On
the horizon, we will soon be launching a new 50-50 lottery
for staff and volunteers.
A new fundraiser
in conjunction with the public school board was launched.
Entitled 'Have a Heart for Change', we partnered with the
Peel District School Board where children donated coins in
support of our Cardiac Challenge fundraising campaign.
With Trillium's
expansion of the new inpatient wing in Mississauga and at
our West Toronto location, we needed to recruit more volunteers.
A recruitment campaign by the Volunteer Resources Department
provided very successful, generating over 600 applications.
To date, 150 new volunteers have been trained and are now
active across Trillium. They have become part of our
1,100-strong volunteer team who is always willing to lend
a hand anywhere within Trillium. Our volunteers generously
gave over 100,000 hours of their time last year.
We always welcome
new volunteers to our group and encourage you to give serious
consideration to offering Trillium a few hours of your time
each week. It pays you great rewards.
