Do we get free parking or do we need to pay?

Registered Volunteers receive complimentary parking for each of their scheduled shifts.

Can we volunteer at both sites if we want to?

You may in fact volunteer at both sites if you wish based on the needs of the services. We may suggest one shift initially until you have familiarized yourself with the hospital and the people.

I'm a student. Can I just do my 40 hour requirement?

Yes. We encourage students who wish to only complete their 40 hour requirement to volunteer at Trillium during the summer months. We commence summer recruitment in April to fill summer vacancies. The requirement is two to three shifts per week to support the summer month needs with a minimum of 50 hours.

How many days do I need to volunteer per week? Can I volunteer more than once a week?

You are required to volunteer weekly, for three to four hours for a minimum of 50 hours. You will be required to volunteer on the same day, at the same time each week as this provides consistency for Service Leaders, staff, patients and their families.

Do we need to wear a uniform and if so, do we need to pay and
how much?

You will be required to wear volunteer apparel for your scheduled shift. This required apparel is available at a cost of $25 for adults and $20 for youth. Co-op students will be provided with complimentary wear for their short-term placement.

How are placement decisions made?

When a vacancy becomes available that corresponds to an area of interest you have identified on your application, you will be invited to an interview to match your needs to the service vacancy needs.  Reference checks and health screening will also be conducted.

Can we take vacations, if so, how long can we be off and will we be guaranteed our placement when we return?

Vacations are encouraged. We require advance notice for vacation plans so that we may schedule some one else in your place. Efforts will be made to ensure you return to your regular service.

How many references do you need?
