Welcome
The Ministry of
Health and Long-Term Care has allocated $30 million annually
since June 2000 to support the development and sustainability
of 11 regional stroke networks as part of the Ontario Stroke
System. The vision is that individuals will have timely, coordinated
access to effective and efficient care based on evidence and
best practices close to home. Network members work collaboratively
to develop regional plans to meet the needs of their communities
in the areas of:
- stroke prevention
- emergency and acute care management
- rehabilitation and community participation
Significant effort
is dedicated to the education of health care providers regarding
the most current evidence in stroke management and how to
incorporate this into daily practice.
In the West GTA region, approximately 1700 individuals suffered
a stroke in the past year. Those who were lucky enough to
receive early intervention may have recovered fully but others
have experienced physical, functional or cognitive difficulties
which have impacted their lives forever. Many dedicated professionals
in this region are committed to enhancing or improving their
services in an effort to prevent or minimize the impact of
stroke and improve the quality of life of stroke survivors
and their families.
