Quitting smoking is the most important thing you can do for your health. Why? Because every cigarette you smoke takes years off your life. Every puff you take puts you at increased risk for heart disease, cancer and breathing problems.

You have the power to live your best quality of life. You can decide to quit smoking and substantially increase your odds for living a long and healthy life.

We’re Partnering With You for Better Health

We have launched a smoking cessation program - the only hospital-based program of its kind in the region. Every patient admitted to our Advanced Cardiac Care centre is asked if he/she smokes. We ask because we know that providing cardiac patients with the support they need to quit smoking is the best way we can help them get back on the road to better health.

The decision to quit has to be yours. What we will do to help our cardiac patients is:

  • Provide a nicotine management kit, “For Smokers Who Want to Quit or For Smokers Who Don’t Want to Quit”
  • Review prescription options to help manage withdrawal symptoms
  • Refer patients to Peel Health’s free Quit Smoking Program following discharge from Trillium

Here are some resources to help you plan to quit smoking for good.

For Peel Health Free Quit Smoking Program

  • For clients 18 years of age and over
  • You receive free confidential smoking cessation counselling with a public health nurse
  • First appointment is 45 minutes. Subsequent appointments are 30 minutes
  • You receive ongoing support and encouragement
  • Develop your own personalized quit plan
  • Learn new skills for coping without cigarettes
  • Learn about stop-smoking medications
  • Appointments are required
